Ways You Can Support LV-Bangor

"Generosity is a principle -- not an amount," Millie Thornton.

Literacy Volunteers of Bangor is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization. We receive no state or federal support and are only partially funded by the United Way of Eastern Maine. Contributions from individuals, businesses, and private foundations are critical for us to continue to provide our free services to our community.

Will You make an investment in adult literacy in Eastern Maine?

YES, I will invest in the future of our community!

Here are some of the ways your tax-deductible contribution can help:

  • $25 - Sponsors a new tutor’s books
  • $50 - Helps recruit tutors & students
  • $100 - Matches a tutor with a student
  • $270 - Tutors a student for a year
  • $500 - Supports a family for a year
  • Other - All amounts appreciated

Make a gift by:

  1. Debit or Credit Card

To provide a secure method for debit/credit card donations online, we use PayPal. You do not have to be a PayPal account holder; just continue under the "Use your credit card" section.

p>Upon successful submission, a receipt will be emailed to you and the transaction on your billing statement will indicate a charge for "PAYPAL*LITERACYVOL."

  2. Check
  3. Please make checks payable to Literacy Volunteers of Bangor, and send to 200 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401. (Please let us know if your donation is made in memory or honor of someone.)

  4. Pledge

Have you considered pledging monthly? Some of our supporters prefer to pay a small amount each month rather than making a large donation at once. If this is an option for you, please contact us by phone (947-8451) or email for more information or to set this up.

Other Ways to Give

While LV-Bangor primarily seeks volunteers to be tutors (applications here), we also look for volunteers to donate other skills -- in the office, during special events, on our committees, and on the Board of Directors. Please contact the Executive Director, Mary Lyon, by email or phone (947-8451) for more information.
